How can teachers use social networking in the classroom?
Social networking is a great tool for teachers to use in their classroom. Mainly because today's students are very up to date on the newest social networking websites like myspace, facebook, blogger, yahoo, and youtube. Because students are already familiar with these sites it makes it not so difficult to navigate and communicate. Just like we have in our class, a teacher could create a classroom blog and post notes, syllabus, chapter questions, and create a way for the students to work together outside of school. Social networking in the classroom is also a great way for students to share their hobbies, interests, photos, and stories. Many students may be too shy to do it in the classroom but this gives them a window to still participate but more so in a way they are more comfortable.
Hi Danielle
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that social networking is a great way for students to collaborate together. It is a good way to get to know more about your classmates and their favorite things. It would be nice if all students had access to a computer - because if they lost their homework or where out of class sick the teacher could just communicate the information to them through social networking.

I like how you pointed out that social networking can be an opportunity for shy students to participate in the class. Some students may feel more comfortable online than in a live classroom.
ReplyDeleteSocial Networking is a great way for students to support one another, we do. I agree that students who are a bit shy may participate more if they are allowed to share their opinions in less of a spotlight.
ReplyDeleteI agree that more students already know how to navigate these websites, but my concern would be in their safety. I would also wonder how parents would feel about their students using social networking sites, even though a teacher is present the teacher cannot be watching over every student at the same time to see what they are posting, viewing, etc. I do like the idea of having a class blog where the students can post ideas and comments about a certain topic.
ReplyDeleteStudents are definitely interested in social networks and so savvy in using them. Therefore teachers who know their way around them are more likely to communicate fully with their class.
